Exhibition “Ukraine: Love + War (2014-2024)” — Belgrade — 15.11.2024

BEOGRAD, 15.11.2024

On November 15, the European House in Belgrade hosted the exhibition “Ukraine: Love + War (2014-2024),” inspired by a book with the same title published by FotoEvidence. The exhibition showed the devastating effects of Russian aggression on Ukrainian society, as seen through the eyes of 95 international photojournalists.

The book, which inspired the exhibition, contains 240 photographs taken over ten years of war in Ukraine. From this collection, 50 photos were displayed, sharing powerful stories about hope, sacrifice, strength, and love. The event was organized by the Open Society Foundation – Western Balkans, in partnership with FotoEvidence and Hartefakt, which served as the executive producer.

The opening ceremony included speeches from:

Volodimyr Tolkač, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Serbia;
Miodrag Milosavljević, Deputy Director of the Open Society Foundation – Western Balkans;
Tomislav Žigmanov, Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue of Serbia;
Evhen Maloletka, ukrainian photojournalist, nominee
Pulitzer Prize for Photography;
Svetlana Bachevanova, Executive Director of FotoEvidence and curator of the exhibition.

The exhibition highlighted the importance of photojournalism in showing the struggles and resilience of people during war. Every photograph told a moving story, revealing the harsh realities of life during conflict and the strength of the human spirit.

Alongside the exhibition, a supporting program explored how art, journalism, and activism connect. The event created space for people to reflect on the ongoing war and its global effects. It was a powerful reminder of how photography can preserve history and encourage meaningful conversations, leaving a strong impression on all visitors.
